Mercedes Benz is a luxury car manufacturer based in Stuttgart, Germany. It takes the name of Karl Benz, who developed the first automobile in the late 1800s, and the brand named used by Gottlieb Daimler, another early German automotive engineer. The company has a reputation for luxury and innovation and have produced many iconic cars over their long existence. Examples of these include the 300SL "Gullwing" sports car, which has been one of the most iconic automobiles in the world since it's introduction in the 1950s for its unique doors and beautiful design, the 600 Grosser, which has been infamous as the car of choice for dictators (Notable owners include Nicolae Ceausescu, Leonid Brezhnev, and Kim Jong-Il), and the E-Class, which is typically considered the benchmark mid size luxury sedan. The company is involved in Motorsports, and competes in Formula 1 racing as well as touring car racing. Mercedes-Benz also owns the Smart company, which makes a very small compact car called the ForTwo.

Patent number 37435 is generally recognized as the birth certificate of the automobile.[1]
