Michael Nugent and gynecomastia ("man boobs")

In 2019, a picture of Michael Nugent can be found HERE where Michael Nugent appears to have gynecomastia ("man boobs"). In the video, DEBATE: FREEDOM OF SPEECH VS FREEDOM TO INSULT Michael Nugent vs Abdullah al Andalusi (UCD, Ireland), Nugent has a discussion with a Muslim and Nugent's "man boobs" can be clearly seen.

In 2023, the Medical News Today article How to get rid of man boobs declared:

In some males, breast tissue enlarges due to hormonal changes, medication use, or an underlying health condition. Treating the underlying condition, dietary changes, and exercise may help reduce breast tissue in males...

The medical term for this condition is gynecomastia. Some people talk about “man boobs,” which may feel like an uncomfortable or bothersome term. This may lead them to feel embarrassed to seek a doctor’s advice about enlarged breast tissue...

There are several potential causes of gynecomastia, including... obesity...[2]

In 2012, Ireland was ranked in the top 11 atheist populations in a survey which questioned 50,000 people from 57 countries across the globe.[3]

Ireland is on course to become the most obese country in Europe, according to 2015 figures from World Health Organisation (WHO) experts.[4] See: Ireland, irreligion and obesity

Michael Nugent's public rebuke of PZ Myers

Michael Nugent wrote to atheist PZ Myers in September 2014:

Some of the content of your blog is hurtful and unjust in itself, it also undermines the effectiveness of attempts to promote compassion and empathy and social justice, and it is additionally harmful because of your prominence as a perceived spokesperson for organised atheism...

PZ, is this really how you want to be remembered? Having defended you against unjust attacks from others, I am now asking you to take a long hard look at what you are doing, consider apologising to people who you have unjustly hurt and defamed, and start focusing on actually promoting compassion and empathy and social justice if those ideas are important to you.[5]

In April 2015, Atheist Ireland announced, "Atheist Ireland is publicly dissociating itself from the hurtful and dehumanising, hateful and violent, unjust and defamatory rhetoric of the atheist blogger PZ Myers."[6] The atheist biologist Massimo Pigliucci said of Myers, "one cannot conclude this parade without mentioning P.Z. Myers, who has risen to fame because of a blog where the level of nastiness (both by the host and by his readers) is rarely matched anywhere else on the Internet...".[7]

Due to its notability requirements, the website Wikipedia® (which was founded by an atheist and agnostic), does not make mention of any specific accomplishments PZ Myers may have achieved in the area of social justice. Wikipedia does mention the social justice accomplishments of Christians such as William Wilberforce, Harriet Beecher Stowe and others.

Atheist Michael Nugent on the atheist movement

According to the Irish atheist Michael Nugent: "The atheist movement is global. It is not defined by the mostly American ‘deep rifts’ disagreements."[8]

Nugent further indicates:

‘Some of these more mainstream media analyses imply that there is a single ‘atheist movement’, and that it is best analysed through some opinions of some mostly American bloggers and activists who, while committed and sincere and doing good work, are not representative of atheist activism worldwide.’[9]

Nugent has spent a great deal of time publicly criticizing fellow atheist PZ Myers online, while at the same time criticizing Myers for publicly criticizing other atheists (Nugent privately asked Myers to change his behavior as well).[10][11]

Furthermore, Irish atheists have a reputation for being ill-tempered/quarrelsome just like their American counterparts.[12] According to the Irish Independent, "If there's one thing you can take for granted, it's that atheists tend to be a rather cranky bunch."[13] See also: Atheism and social/interpersonal intelligence and Atheist factions

As far as global atheism:

1. Global atheism is declining as a percentage of the world's population and this trend is expected to continue according to religious demographic scholars (see: Desecularization).

On July 24, 2013, CNS News reported:

Atheism is in decline worldwide, with the number of atheists falling from 4.5% of the world’s population in 1970 to 2.0% in 2010 and projected to drop to 1.8% by 2020, according to a new report by the Center for the Study of Global Christianity at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary in South Hamilton, Mass."[14]

There is no comprehensive and agreed upon plan among atheists on how to reverse the global decline of atheism in terms of global market share which has been occurring since at the least the time of the dissolution of the Soviet Union on December 26, 1991.[15]

2. Most atheists are East Asians (See: Asian atheism and Global atheism). And East Asian atheism is significantly influenced by communist China which practices an authoritarian militant atheism which engages in human rights violations (see: Communism and religious persecution and Atheism and communism).

China has the world's largest atheist population.[16][17]

Christianity is seeing rapid growth in China despite facing religious persecution (see: Growth of Christianity in China). In addition, Asian atheism is facing 21st century desecularization (see: East Asia's aging population and global desecularization).

3. Although PZ Myers' Freethought Blogs is facing a significant loss of web traffic, according to Alexa, it still has more global influence than the Atheist Ireland website and Michael Nugent's website.

According to Alexa, as of June 9, 2016, Atheist Ireland is the 3,353,639th most popular website in the world and declining in its Alexa ranking,[18] In addition, as of June 9, 2016, Michael Nugent's website is the 1,629,226th most popular website in the world according to Alexa and is declining in its global Alexa ranking.[19]

According to Alexa, as of June 9, Freethoughblogs is the 51,919th most popular website in the world and is currently declining in its Alexa ranking.[20]

4. The global atheist population is aging and atheists have a sub-replacement level of fertility (see: Global atheism and aging populations and Atheism and fertility rates).
