Moral police

In some Islamic countries, there is a moral police which patrols the country's citizenry to see if they are abiding to moral standards. Among their most frequent "busts" are violations indecent clothing for women;[1] women and unrelated men spending time together;[2] romantic books;[3] works of art;[4] and having cats and dogs as pets.[5] These charges are in additional to illegal activities such as homosexual acts and drug possession. In recent years, the oppressed public has violently or legally resisted the moral police.[6]
In Saudi Arabia, the moral police are called the Muttawa. Moral polices also exist in Iran, Yemen, the United Arab Emirates, Pakistan, India, Singapore and other Islamic countries.
