Neon Goby
The Neon Goby (Scientific Name: Gobiosoma oceanops or Elacatinus oceanops; Family: Gobiidae) is a small, brightly colored saltwater tropical fish. They grow to be about an inch long and live in the crevices of rocks. They are easily identified as having a mostly black body with a bright blue, gold, or white stripe running from the eye to the tail. They serve a symbiotic role in the ocean's ecosystem by acting as cleaners for larger fish, eating small external parasites on the larger fish's gills and skin.
Keeping as Pets
Due to their small size, non-aggressive nature, and coloration, Neon Gobys are very popular saltwater aquarium pets, and are available at nearly any aquatic pet store. They can be kept individually in small aquariums, or grouped together in larger ones, and are relatively hardy fish. They will eat almost anything, and will readily spawn in captivity as long as conditions are good. Avoid housing with larger predatory fish though, for obvious reasons.
