New Jersey Turnpike
The New Jersey Turnpike is a toll road that stretches from the George Washington Bridge at the northern end of New Jersey to the Delaware Memorial Bridge at the southern end. The turnpike is a toll road frequently used by trucks and students who are driving from the Northeast to points South. The turnpike also connects Newark Airport to New York City and southern parts of the State.
The New Jersey Turnpike is the sixth busiest toll road in the Nation, and was constructed in a mere four years, from 1948 to 1952.[1] Part of the highway goes by a cluster of refineries near Elizabeth, New Jersey, which has a foul polluted odor that gives New Jersey a bad image among travelers.
Unfortunately, the New Jersey Turnpike is also notorious for many horrific car crashes. Recent victims of crashes on the New Jersey Turnpike include John Nash and comedian James McNair.[2]
