Noah Haynes Swayne (December 7, 1804 – June 8, 1884) was an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States. He was an abolitionist - his anti-slavery cause led him to leave both Virginia and the Democratic party, moving to Ohio and joining the newly formed Republican Party.[1]
