North to the future

North to the Future is the state motto of Alaska. In 1963 the Alaska Centennial Commission sponsored a contest for anyone to come up with a centennial motto. The prize was $300.00. After receiving 761 entries, the commission chose the motto of Richard Peter, who was a Juneau journalist.
