A wingnut is a specialized nut designed to be easily tightened and loosened by hand

A nut is, technically, a type of dry fruit in which one or two seeds is contained, and the ovary wall hardens when the fruit matures, while the seeds remain unaffixed to the wall. Nuts are generally high in a variety of nutrients, notably protein and fat.

The term "nut" also describes an individual who is perceived as insane or over-zealous.

A "nut" is also a piece of fastening hardware which is used in conjunction with a bolt or other male threaded fastener (such as a stud).
