Nylon

Nylon (polyamide)[1] is a synthetic polymer first produced in 1935 at DuPont. Nylon was first used in 1938 for the bristles on toothbrushes. In 1940, it provided fabric for women's stockings (called nylons). It substituted for silk.
It was used by the United States for parachutes in World War II in 1941, making nylon stockings hard to find until the war's end.
Nylon fibers are now used in carpets, guitar strings, racket strings, fishing lines and pantyhose.
