Orlando is a city in north-central Florida, known to many tourists for its proximity to Disney World.

When Disney World opened in 1971, Orlando was a relatively small town. But Disney World attracts more than 52 million visitors annually, making it the most popular theme park in the world. Orlando has boomed in growth ever since.

Orlando has a crime rate much higher than the national average, but Disney World is protected and isolated from that problem.

To serve the massive stream of tourists, Orlando is the site of the Basilica of the National Shrine of Mary, Queen of the Universe, a Roman Catholic Church built on a 17-acre tract of land where ground was broken in 1990 and the consecration occurred in 1993.
