Perry v. Schwarzenegger is a pending case in a federal US District Court in San Francisco. At issue is whether California's Prop 8, which defined marriage as between a man and a woman, and was passed by a majority of California votes in November 2008, violates the US Constitution's 14th amendment. The trial court ruled that the measure was unconstitutional on August 4, 2010. The case is currently under appeal.
