Personal attack

When someone starts a personal attack on you, it’s because they have run out of rational arguments and they are afraid that maybe you are right. So by painting the picture that you are stupid or somehow evil, they hope to turn opinion against you. [1] When personal attacks are employed in a debate, they often fall into the logical fallacy of argumentum ad hominem.
