The Petition of Right was a document which the British Parliament tried to get Charles I to sign. It would have limited the powers of the King in four significant ways. He could not imprison people without a valid reason, he could not force people to house soldiers in private homes, he would not impose taxes without consulting parliament, and he could not enforce martial law during peace time.
