Philip Hammond is a British Conservative Party politician. He is Member of Parliament for Runnymede and Weybridge and was the Chancellor of the Exchequer from July 2016[1] to July 2019. He served in numerous other government positions, including foreign minister from 2014 to 2016, defense minister from 2011 to 2014, and transportation minister from 2010 to 2011.[2]

He resigned as Chancellor on 24 July 2019, the same day as Theresa May, as he opposed new Prime Minister Boris Johnson's pledge to achieve Brexit by leaving the European Union on 31 October with or without a deal.[3]
