The pilot whale is a toothed whale (of the suborder Odontoceti). Adult pilot whales can reach up to about 20 feet in length. They are notable in appearance for their bulbous forehead. The primary food source of pilot whales are squid. They are widely distributed across the globe, and though they were hunted as well as other whales their population was not severely reduced by whaling.
