The Plurality opinion is the opinion supported by the majority of justices of the Supreme Court that agree to the decision but when not all of the supporting justices agree with the legal reasoning behind it.

It is the controlling opinion when no majority opinion exists such as in the case of Planned Parenthood v. Casey [1]
