The Polar Bear (Ursus Maritimus) is a large species of bear found in the Arctic. They are capable of surviving extreme cold, as well as sea ice, snow and frozen land.

They have thick blubber to keep warm and white fur for camouflage. Polar bears hibernate through much of the winter, usually in an excavated snow den. Their normal diet consists mainly of seals, though in Canada they have been observed to take prey as small as lemmings.

They are the only natural predator of mankind. For this reason they are greatly feared by arctic travelers.

Changes in the Earth's climate[Citation Needed] are threatening the polar bears habitat and the survival of the species:The current world population is estimated at around 20-25,000 [1], and shrinking.
