ProQuest is an online textbase that contains over 2 million PhD dissertations and masters' theses, with over 60,000 titles added every year. It was originally founded as a microfilm publisher in 1938 by Eugene Power. It contains so many theses that it is the official repository of the U.S. Library of Congress. It contains U.S. newspaper archives from as far back as 1764, including a complete run of the New York Times since 1851 that is searchable. Many academic libraries have online subscriptions.
