A projection is a financial estimate, prepared by a business, if certain events occur. For example, a business may run a projection of estimated sales if they increase or decrease the price of their product. Or they may project the impact, on cash flow, of a sale/leaseback arrangement of their head office buiding.

While a projection is not a forecast or a budget, it is often the basis for one or the other.

In psychology, psychological projection (or projection bias) is a defense mechanism in which one attributes one’s own unacceptable or unwanted thoughts or/and emotions to others. For an extreme example see homosexuality.
