pyrite -fools gold
Fool's gold is the common name of the mineral pyrite (iron disulfide, FeS2), which, due to its metallic luster and brass-yellow hue is often mistaken for gold. It can be distinguished from real gold by its crystalline structure and, when handled, sulfuric smell. Occasionally, small quantities of gold can be found in pyrite deposits.
