Ramadan
Ramadan (Arabic: رمضان, Ramaḍān) Ramadan is an Islamic religious observance that takes place during the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, when the Qur'an was revealed. It is considered the most venerated and blessed month of the Islamic year. Lasting for the entire month, Muslims fast and abstain from sexual relations during the daylight hours and in the evening eat small meals and visit with friends and family. In some sects, drinking water is allowed during the day. It is a time of introspection, contemplation, worship, and a time to strengthen ties, both of the family and community. [1] During Ramadan, it is common for Muslims to go to the Masjid (mosque) and spend several hours praying and studying the Qur'an, in quiet contemplation or synchronous chanting. At the end of Ramadan, 'Bakri Eid' is celebrated. Celebrations centre around the sacrifice of goats, that are then consumed during the celebrations.
