Ramses II was a very long-lived pharaoh of the Egyptian kingdom being on the thrown from 1290 to 1224 B.C. and the last ruler of the New Kingdom. He was the son of Seti I. He reached an accomodation with the Hittites of Anatolia after a standoff in the Battle of Kadesh in Syria. He built on a grand scale throughout Egypt.
