The Reichstag fire was a false flag operation conducted by the National Socialist party in Germany weeks after German Chancellor Adolf Hitler's ascension to power. The purpose of the operation was to blame the enemies of national socialism and empower the new regime with enabling legislation to stomp out its enemies and further restrict constitutional and human rights.
Within days, the Enabling Act was passed.
