Respect is a virtue and is the idea that a person or idea deserves to be treated well. For example, treating one's elders with respect (filial piety) - as envisioned by the Ten Commandments - involves honoring those with more experience and wisdom. Respect, in its ideological context, may mean a respect for life, and for opposing points of view.
