Richard M. Johnson (1780- 1850) was Vice President of the United States from 1837 to 1841 under Martin Van Buren. In 1806, he represented Kentucky in the House, but left to fight in the War of 1812. He claimed to have killed the Indian chief Tecumseh at the Battle of Thames in 1813, engendering the slogan "Rumpsey Dumpsey, Colonel Johnson killed Tecumseh."
