Richard M. Johnson

Richard M. Johnson (1780 - 1850) was vice president of the United States from 1837 to 1841. He served under Martin Van Buren. He claimed to have killed the indian chief, Tecumseh, at the battle of Thames in 1813. This caused the slogan "Rumphsey Dumpsey, Colonal Johnson killed Tecumseh." He returned to the House of Representitives and later on to the Senate where he served for ten terms. The first of the Three Vice Presidents named Johnson (the other two are Andrew Johnson, and Lyndon B. Johnson.) [1]
