Rick Warren is the senior pastor and founder of Saddleback Church, a megachurch in California that has services for 20,000 people per week. He came to prominence with the publication of The Purpose Driven Life a blockbuster bestseller that seeks to instruct individuals how to best follow and embrace the role that God has for them. So far it has sold more than 20 million copies. Due to the royalties received from his writing success, Warren refuses to take a church salary and now uses 90% of his income to support charities. He is respected not only within Christian circles, but is given accolades by the secular media as well.
Rev Warren read the invocation at President-elect Barack Obama's swearing-in ceremony in January, 2009.
Warren was victimized by Liberal homosexual columnist Dan Savage in a similar fashion as Rick Santorum, where Savage redefined the name of his church into a verb describing unprotected workarounds for sex between abstinent Christian youths. Even though he got in trouble with the liberals, the New Age, feel-good message of his church and swearing in Obama makes it clear he's a liberal and Christian In Name Only himself.
