Silver Ring Thing is a US-based sexual abstinence campaign aimed at promoting pre-marital chastity amongst adolescents and young adults. Founded in 1996, and until 2006 in receipt of US Government financial support, it campaigns through rallies at which young men and women pledge to abstain from pre-marital sexual intercourse. This pledge is demonstrated by the wearing of a silver purity ring.

In 2006 the SRT concept was exported to the United Kingdom using broadly the same formula. However, due to the more liberal and atheistic culture of British society, the campaign met a cool, and sometime suspicious reception. A high-profile legal case concerning the right to wear an SRT chastity ring to a school was over-turned by the courts, and the SRT's involvement in the case[1] - along with that the fact it happened in Horsham, where the UK arm of the campaign is based[2] - along with its Christian ethic, led to the campaign being treated with suspicion by many in Britain.
