The skull is a bony structure found in many animals which provides the framework for the head and protects the brain from injury. Animals with skulls are called Craniates.

The skull consists of the cranium and the mandible, a vomer, two each of the maxilla, palatine, zygomatic, lacrimal, and nasal bones, and two inferior nasal concha.
