Sonogram laws are state requirements that women considering having an abortion are provided a sonogram beforehand by the abortion clinic. Only seven states have passed sonogram laws that include the first trimester of the pregnancy:

  • Alabama
  • Florida[1]
  • Louisiana
  • Mississippi[2]
  • North Carolina
  • Oklahoma[3]
  • Texas

  1. Signed into law late June, 2011.
  2. Miss. Code § 41-41-34 (allows waiver and does not provide for a waiting period).
  3. Court invalidated it; "The law mandates that women receive an ultrasound within an hour of undergoing an abortion, and that the ultrasound technician turn the monitor towards the mother so she can see, and describe the unborn child." [1]
