Sportsman of the Year is an annual prize given by Sports Illustrated, to politically correct athletes rather than the Greatest Conservative Sports Stars. The exceptions that prove the rule are when an unusual shared prizes were given to Mary Lou Retton in 1984 (before she appeared at a Republican National Convention) and Curt Schilling in 2001 (before he was outspoken in support of Scott Brown) and Drew Brees in 2010.
