Stanley Baldwin, 1st Earl Baldwin of Bewdley, KG (1867-1947), of the Conservative Party, led three governments of the United Kingdom as prime minister—1923-24, 1924–29, and 1935–37. He was PM during the abdication crisis of 1936, when King Edward VIII gave up the throne to marry American divorcee Wallis Simpson.
