Stephen J. Dubner (born 1963 - ) is an American author and an award-winning journalist. Dubner has written four books and numerous magazine articles. He spent several years at the New York Times newspaper, and has also written for The New Yorker magazine. He lives in New York City.

Stephen Dubner is best known as co-author (with the University of Chicago economist Steven Levitt) of the pop-economics book Freakonomics. Their book Freakonomics has sold 3 million copies worldwide. (Freakonomics, A Rogue Economist Explores the Hidden Side of Everything.) Dubner and his co-author, Steven Levitt, have appeared widely on television.
