Stephen Edwin King is a best-selling American horror novelist, with such works as Carrie, It, The Stand, Misery, Needful Things, The Shining, The Green Mile and the recently completed seven-book Dark Tower fantasy series. He was born in 1947 in Portland, Maine, and has lived there for most of his life.

In June 1999, King suffered several severe injuries when he was hit by a van while walking in his neighborhood. He relives this incident in The Dark Tower, the final book in the Dark Tower series, in which his life is saved by Jake Chambers.

Many of his works have been adapted to film and television.
