Stuart Alan Moss, Jr. (born July 29, 1963), is the short-term District 33 state representative for Calcasieu Parish in the southwestern portion of Louisiana. On November 6, 2018, he won a special election to succeed Democrat Mike Danahay, who resigned from the state House to become the mayor of Sulphur, Louisiana, located twelve miles west of the larger regional city, Lake Charles.
A Republican and a former city council member in Sulphur, Moss defeated two Democrats, businessman Leslie Allen "Les" Farnum, a member of the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury, and Teri Ann Estes Johnson (born July 10, 1959), the president of the Calcasieu Federation of Teachers.[1] Moss polled 6,795 votes (54 percent); Farnum, 4,883 (39 percent), and Johnson, 912 (7 percent).[2]
Eleven months after his election, Moss was unseated in the nonpartisan blanket primary on October 12, 2019, by Leslie Farnum, who switched parties to challenge his former opponent. Farnum polled 6,208 votes (56 percent) to Moss' 4,793 (44 percent).[3]
