System of a Down

Country United States
Style Alternative Metal
Year 1995

System of a Down (also called SOAD or System) is a four-piece alternative metal band, formed in 1995 in Los Angeles, California. Their style has been classified as "alternative metal", although it is somewhat hard to classify. They are known for their liberal political views and activism, as well as their Armenian heritage. Lead singer Serj Tankian and guitarist Tom Morello, formerly of Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave, founded Axis of Justice, a "social justice" organization. Michael Moore directed the band's anti-war video to their 2003 single "Boom", which was released several days before the beginning of the Iraq War. In 2006, the band announced that they were going on an indefinite hiatus.[1]
