Opening up the export of firearms does seem like a good move, but I find the idea of selling more advanced armaments a bit more concerning. Guns themselves are basically high-tech cannons. There really isn't much to it, and you can make a shoddy one in your basement if you wanted to. It's the high-tech stuff I worry about.
Exports are always good for the economy, but if we go selling some of our best military equipment more freely, there is no way to get back that intellectual property. It's out there, and our current and future enemies have a better chance of learning how our stuff is made, and countering or reproducing it. Of course, China just outright steals the designs, but almost everyone else must do it the old-fashioned way: reverse engineering. I hope we still keep a tight control on who gets this military hardware. Bad appointments

Dean Winslow, the Trump Administration's nominee for Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs, voiced support for banning assault rifles, something which goes against the Second Amendment right to keep and bear guns, especially military-grade guns (protection against a tyrannical govt., John Locke, historical context, etc.). Total surrender

I don't like to even mention meetings like this on these talk pages (much less in the mainspace), but Trump's meeting with members of Congress did not seem to go well -- Trump endorsed major gun control measures such as banning bump stocks, raising the age limit to buy guns to age 21 (which should be unconstitutional), Manchin-Toomey universal background checks, taking away due process for Second Amendment rights, and he even considered an assault rifle ban. On top of that, he opposed (of all people) Steve Scalise's proposal for national reciprocity in exchange for gun control, and he criticized the NRA (a relatively moderate gun-rights organization) multiple times (1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11). Hopefully, Trump can still show himself to be pro-Second Amendment, but for whatever reason, he seems to have totally caved to the emotionalistic gun control lobby to advocate for ineffective control controls that hurt the rights of law-abiding citizens. --1990'sguy (talk) 22:57, 28 February 2018 (EST)
