Critical review

A cursory perusal of the finished works provides examples of disregard for word for word equivalence, while favoring the liberal Dynamic Equivalence method and so-called "better mss, along with awkward renderings, or ones which seem more motivated by fear of liberals more than a fear of God. As Martin Luther put it: "I have been very careful to see that where everything turns on a single passage, I have kept to the original quite literally and have not lightly departed from it. I preferred to do violence to the German language rather than to depart from the Word."

A quick look at Matthews 1-16, Mary is said to have become "pregnant with the child of the Divine Guide" (Mt. 1:18,20 and elsewhere), showing seeming contempt for the universal warranted translation. The Divine nature of the Holy Spirit is revealed more in other texts, while "holy" (hagios-holy) describes His supreme attribute, and Spirit (pneuma) denotes His nature, and which here is evident in His power, not guidance. In Mt. 4:19 Jesus healed "every manner of disease" is replaced with "every kind of germ" (really). Christ in Mt. 16:16 is rendered the "Anointed One", which is what it means, (though "one" is added) but it is inconsistent with the idea that liberal renderings (Pres. Obama?) are to be avoided. In Mt. 16:18, "the gates of hell shall not prevail against it" is rendered, "The very Gates of Hell shall be breached by it!". Thus the literal hadēs (hell) ou (not) katischuō (overpower) autos (it, or the same) must be interpretively rendered so that the church can get into Hell.

"Do good to those who hate [miseō= detest] you" (Mt. 5:44) is replaced by "disregard you", which is far weaker/liberal. Mt. 6:25, "Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. " (Mt. 6:34) is replaced with the "awkward", "So stop worrying about tomorrow, because tomorrow will worry about itself. The bad things that happen today are enough to worry about today." "Give place" in Mt. 9:24 is replaced with Jesus saying "Give Me room", contrary to the word (anachōreō=depart), meaning "(get) out," and which is consistent with the Bible doctrine of separation, which happens in the next verse. In Mt. 15: 19, "fornications" is replaced with "sexually immoral thoughts and acts". However, if which general evil thoughts and then actions are described as the product of the heart, then describing thoughts again is redundant, while if the actions are describe the kinds of "evil thoughts" then listing thoughts again is wrong. Of course, none of these need to be changed anyway.

In addition, "Rich in mercy" (in Eph. 2:4) is seen as "an awkward translation at best", while in the "conservative" commentary notes on Mt. 2:12, the impact of the statement that "God warned these men in a dream" is criticized, as "That God gave the warning directly is an assumption. That God was instrumental in the giving of that warning is certainly a safe assumption." The blessed in Mt. 5:6 are not primarily those yearn for righteousness in salvation and sanctification and so come to Christ, but those who "hunger and thirst for justice," who "actively do and pursue justice in their daily living." While true preachers of righteousness will be blessed, the Bible interprets this best as denoting those who come to Christ for salvation, choosing light over darkness, (Jn. 3:19-21; 1Thes. 1:9) and i thought this was designed to prevent liberal sounding rendering (justice over righteousness).

While the KJV is seen to promote feminism through its judicious use of the word "children" in "children of God" (Mt. 5:4) and other places (where is there is not gender-specific word) yet "descendant" is used over "son" in Mt. 1:1." while words like "laborer" are seen as socialist.

As for the often repeated "older=better" mss argument, see my comments here [1]

This is only a cursory examination of some of the work of this project, but it it increasingly manifest as a mistake, like unto so many other ill-advised attempt's have been.Daniel1212 20:25, 30 November 2009 (EST)
