Return to "Seventh-day Adventist Church" page.

Infomercial

What is (was) this infomercial doing in CP? Not a word about the controversy regarding whether it even qualifies to be called Christian according to the Biblical and historical use of the word.Daniel1212 13:04, 9 July 2009 (EDT)

there was too much on the Evangelical opposition to SDA--which can be briefly summarized--and not enough on the church itself, so I ficed that. RJJensen 14:45, 10 July 2009 (EDT)
What you did was to minimized the substantial conflict that SDA had and has with historical Christianity, as well as to sanitize the negative things which it revolve around, while favorably presenting your doctrine. Your censoring would not even be allowed on WP.Daniel1212 17:44, 10 July 2009 (EDT)
CP is not the venue for bitter theological disputes--and especially not for arguments that the Ten Commandments no longer apply. (for the record, my background is Roman Catholic) RJJensen 18:14, 10 July 2009 (EDT)
What is your justification for completely eliminating the history of the conflict between Evangelical faith and the Seventh-day Adventist Church, and sanitizing it of any balance for the infomercial that it blatantly was before, and stood untouched for months as, and now is an expanded version of? Must readers go to WP to obtain a more comprehensive view of SDA and its history?Daniel1212 19:46, 10 July 2009 (EDT)
1) it's not very important and 2) it was poorly handled. This is now an article based on modern scholarship, not old polemics. The language in use here is unacceptable: sanitizing, blatant, infomercial. Please never use such language again. thanks. A little Christian charity would also be useful. Typos/Writing

I notice I cannot edit this article, so I thought 'd just post this here - the sentence "This was later moved to 1844, but which also failed." is not very clear. Perhaps "This was later changed to 1844, but his (the?) prophecy failed to come to pass", or somesuch wording might be a little clearer? Also, "The chief proponent of this idea was Mrs. Ellen G. White, who along her husband James" needs the word "with" inserted between "along" and "her". Also, "matching events top the predictions in the Bible." - "top" should be "to". --KipDonner 18:56, 10 July 2009 (EDT)

Thanks--I will make your changes. RJJensen 19:01, 10 July 2009 (EDT)

One more - in the 'opposition' section, you need a space before 20th. --KipDonner 19:43, 10 July 2009 (EDT)

Christian Sunday

This is an interesting article, and I've learned a lot from it. But the section about the SDA's desire to respect a Christian Sunday perplexes me - "The concern about establishing a Christian Sunday expanded into opposition to the establishment of a "Christian" identity for the nation, and opposition to school prayer. This led to easy alliances with secularists in the American political spectrum." I don't understand that? How did their "concern about establishing a Christian Sunday" lead them to 'oppose Christianity and school prayer'?! It seems like they are completely opposite instincts? Can that point be clarified? --KipDonner 19:08, 10 July 2009 (EDT)

they wanted a Christian SATURDAY and strongly opposed laws that closed places on Sunday. for them sabbath = Saturday = 7th day. RJJensen 19:12, 10 July 2009 (EDT)
Really?! Very interesting, I never knew that! And how about the objections to school prayer and collaborating with secularists? --KipDonner 19:18, 10 July 2009 (EDT)
they strongly believe in separation of church and state, fearing especially that Sunday laws will get enacted otherwise.RJJensen 19:26, 10 July 2009 (EDT)
Very interesting indeed. Thank you for your knowledge and insights, RJJensen. --KipDonner 19:29, 10 July 2009 (EDT)

Face it, Ellen White was right!

The ‘image to the beast’ represents that form of apostate Protestantism which will be developed when the Protestant churches [of the USA] shall seek the aid of the civil power for the enforcement of their dogmas.

—The Great Controversy, p. 445

Could Ellen G. White not have foretold our present circumstances more accurately? Are not the majority of Republicans currently clamoring to seize control of the civil power to enforce its dogams? O prophecy deniers, feel the sting! —LT (Matthew 26:52) Friday, 00:11, April 21, 2023 (EDT)

A house divided against itself cannot stand.
I've never seen a successful Christian sect yet that was built upon tearing down other Christian sects.
'the image of the beast' is unsaved man - which is YOU personally without the spirit of Christ. RobSGive Peace a chance 02:42, April 21, 2023 (EDT)
that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; (Ecl. 3:19)
As many as received him gave he power to become sons of God.

Revelation and prophecy is not a bunch of futuristic pie-in-sky events. It is stuff to live by here and now. And that's how you discern false teachers and prophets. RobSGive Peace a chance 03:05, April 21, 2023 (EDT)
"I've never seen a successful Christian sect yet that was built upon tearing down other Christian sects." Ah yes, like how you and fellow apostate Protestants alike pointlessly label SDAs a "cult," just as Marxists do? Very excellent demonstration of psychological projection there, RobSmith. —LT (Matthew 26:52) Friday, 10:06, April 21, 2023 (EDT)
I have never anywhere ever claimed to be a Protestant, to the best of my recollection. I have always described myself as a small "c" catholic. Protestants call people like me "Charismatic Catholics", although I have never attended or been affiliated with a Charismatic Catholic church body. Amy Coney Barrett, I understand is described as something of a Charismatic Catholic. RobSGive Peace a chance 00:20, April 23, 2023 (EDT)
I have a lot on my plate. I am not going to participate in this discussion. Conservative (talk) 22:53, April 21, 2023 (EDT)
