Terry, I agree that 4004 BC should be wikified; in my mass of dewiki-ing I didn't notice the significance :) What about October 23, though? Linking that won't link 8/23/-4004, it will link any 8/23. Jazzman831 23:57, 14 August 2007 (EDT)

We have a routine that gathers up all the dates that have internal links in articles. That routine allows a "this day in history" to work that much faster.--TerryHTalk 00:41, 15 August 2007 (EDT)
Please elaborate on that. Philip J. Rayment 03:03, 15 August 2007 (EDT)

Use of Wikified Dates to Feature "This Day In History"

If you Wikify your month-and-day dates, this has an interesting benefit: you can then create the page for that date and identify all the events in history that occurred on that date, but in various years. All you need to use is the "What Links Here" link on the sidebar. Then the keepers of the "Today in History" section need only look those up.

I'll grant you that I shouldn't have double-bracketed publication dates. The best dates to Wikify are actual historical events.--TerryHTalk 09:16, 15 August 2007 (EDT)

I wondered if that's what you meant. It was the "we have a routine" bit that had me wondering. Philip J. Rayment 09:27, 15 August 2007 (EDT)
Errr I was under the impression that we shouldn't wikilink dates (per the Manual of Style) so I dewikied tons of them last night. They were all red links, so nobody's done any "This day in History" pages yet. Jazzman831 09:47, 15 August 2007 (EDT)
You are correct that that is the policy in the Manual of Style. In that regard, you are doing nothing wrong in removing them. Philip J. Rayment 09:51, 15 August 2007 (EDT)
Whew! *wipes brow* :) Jazzman831 10:01, 15 August 2007 (EDT)
