The Terminator is a 1984 science fiction film that stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton, and Michael Biehn. It was directed by James Cameron.

Plot

A killer cyborg from the year 2029 is sent to 1984 to kill a woman named Sarah Connor. The Human Resistance sends a protector, Kyle Reese to keep her safe. When Reese eventually meets Sarah, he reveals the reason as to why the cyborg is after her. In 1997, an Artificial Intelligence computer known as Skynet will attempt to destroy the human race with a nuclear attack, which the survivors call Judgment Day. The human race will be near extinction, until one man teaches the survivors how to fight. His name is John Connor - Sarah's future son. Eventually, it's revealed that Reese was in love with Sarah, and the two make love in a hotel room toward the end of the film. It's revealed this was another reason why Reese was sent to 1984, as at the end of the film, it's revealed that he is John Connor's father.

Sequels

The Terminator has spawned three sequels, Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991), Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003) and Terminator Salvation (2009). A fifth movie, Terminator Genisys (2015), is a reboot of the franchise. There's also a television series, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (2008), which is settled between the second and the third movie. Terminator: Dark Fate (2019) sees the return of Linda Hamilton as Sarah Connor, and James Cameron as producer. Cameron has stated that this is the sequel to T2, ignoring the previous three films.
