Euteneuer holds a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy from the University of Notre Dame in Indiana and also earned a Licentiate degree in Biblical Theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, Italy.  As a college student, he served in the Marine Corps Officer Candidate Program, survived boot camp and graduated at the top of his Company. After his ordination in 1988, he served as a parish priest in Florida.
