Thomas Richard “Tom” Carper, born January 23, 1947 (age 77), is a leftist Democratic Senator from Delaware. Carper served in the United States Navy (1968-1973), and in the Navy Reserve (1973 to present). His political career has included five terms as a Congressman and two terms as governor of Delaware. He was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 2000.
