Prior to his election to the U.S. House, Ryan served in the Ohio State Senate, representing District 32 from 2001 to 2002.

Tim Ryan is the Democrat candidate for 2022 Ohio Senate race, after all mess he did in congress he try to portray himself as "moderate" and pro Trump tariffs due to that he is facing strong populist challenger JD Vance. Despite him pushing a “tough on China” message in his Ohio senate campaign, he continues to ask his constituents to follow him on communist China’s TikTok.[2]
