A toothbrush is an instrument created for applying toothpaste to the teeth and often the gums and tongue. Toothbrushes are sometimes used ad hoc for getting into places around the house that are hard to reach otherwise.
Although they have changed significantly, the concept of toothbrushes dates back to 3500-3000 BC. Although the exact date of invention is unknown, Babylonians and Egyptians are known to have made a sort of stick-brush by fraying the end of a twig.[1][2] Additionally, the Sumerians of 3000 BC were found to have been using golden toothpicks.[3]
