The United Arab Emirates (usually called the UAE, or simply the Emirates) is a small country in the Middle East, bordering Oman and Saudi Arabia. The country is made up of seven Emirates: Abu Dhabi, Ajmān, Dubai, Fujairah, Ras al-Khaimah, Sharjah, and Umm al-Quwain. The capital is Abu Dhabi. The UAE (mostly Dubai) is usually considered the most "western-friendly" of the Arab nations.[Citation Needed]

History

Prior to 1971, the United Arab Emirates were known as the Trucial States or Trucial Oman, due to the fact that the territory had formerly been administered by Britain-friendly Sheikhs.
