The United Press International ("UPI") is a news organization that has provided stories for over 100 years to newspapers and other media outlets.[1] It has been a competitor to the Associated Press.
It was founded in 1907 by newspaper publisher E.W. Scripps, who owned a chain of newspapers. It has undergone several changes in ownership since then and is not used today as widely as the Associated Press. UPI was purchased in 2000 by News World Communications, an international media company founded by Sun Myung Moon.
