United States presidential election, 1868
From Conservapedia
The unpopular President, Andrew Johnson, had been impeached while in office. Although not convicted of his offence, it showed that he would not be nominated by the Republican party for reelection. They instead chose military hero, Ulysses S. Grant, to run on the Republican ticket. The Democrats chose Horatio Seymour as their candidate. The results of the election were:
candidates | popular vote | electoral vote |
---|---|---|
Ulysses S. Grant | 3,013,421 | 214 |
Horatio Seymour | 2,706,829 | 80 |
Non-Voters | 0 | 81 |
