In United States v. Throckmorton, 98 U.S/ 61 (1878), the U.S. Supreme Court held that "fraud vitiates every thing, and a judgment equally with a contract." Id. at 66.

This case is cited as authority that election fraud invalidates the reported outcome of an election.
