Urdu is an Indo-European language spoken in Pakistan and northern India.

Relation to Other Languages

Urdu and Hindi are mutually intelligible and many linguists consider them to be dialects of the same language, rather than two separate languages. In addition, Hindi is written with a syllabic script descended from Sanskrit, while Urdu is written in a modified form of the Arabic script.
